Working at the" Boutique Studio"

Well, after saying my goodbye's at Cartoon Network for the umpteenth time after finishing work on Foster's , I was fortunate enough to land at the "Boutique Studio" or as others know it, SD Entertainment.
And a fine place it is, with familiar faces and a friendly atmosphere, I'm hoping this is the beginning of a beautiful relationship!

Foster's Home for Imaginary Friends series comes to an end

Been a while since I posted, but for those who may not know Foster's is coming to an end at season six. It's been a great run, 6 season's is nothing to shake a stick at, would have loved another season or two, but Craig was ready to move on, and I completely understand from a creative point of view.

CartoonInstitute will be the new vehicle for Craig McCracken and Rob Renzetti, whereas 42 shorts will be produced within a 72 week period, which is already underway since May-June 2008

There are changes coming!

The folks who have helmed the Development Dept.s for both Cartoon Network and Nickelodeon respectively, have been removed as of recent, and new blood may be possibly coming soon.

Nick Aquisition!

It appears Cartoon Network has made an acquisition from Nickelodeon Studios. Adina Pitt comes over to join Robert Sorcher to infuse some new content into the empty bucket at CN.

Getting Linked!

A friend of mine recommended a great site in my opinion for networking called linkedin. And in our industry we definitely need all the networking we can muster. I've yet to see the fruits of my labor in getting connected with present and past colleagues and friends, but only time will tell.

Axium has gone Under!

For those who may not know Axium Payroll Services went belly-up this week and some studios are scrambling to get a replacement. Entertainment Partners is getting the bulk of the fallout.

Starz Media had switched to Axium only to get to news one week later that Axium was no more.

Independent Contractors

This happens so much in our industry, you work for an employer who says they can't pay overtime, but will give comp time in lieu of, and ultimately never compensate accordingly.

Between the Holidays

The studios are quietly humming as we work between the Christmas and New Years holidays, some are home and others (including myself) are trying to catch up to the work ahead of us.

Well, the writer's strike has affected some of the studios directly, some more than others'. Friends at Disney say it's hard to pass the lines even after you explain your an artist and on their side. Maybe we should have signs to help them distinguish between the "suits" and the "talent".

I was listening to KOST 103.5 FM the other day, and Mark and Kim who co-host the morning show were talking to John Mcginley who stars on Scrubs. He mentioned that the writer's were trying to negotiate a percentage of 1% of the total DVD sales, whereas the production vendors were getting close to 12%!

Um, my figures may not be accurate, but...WHAT!? Are you kidding me?! These are the guys that create the story for goodness sake!
